Maybe it was too much to expect a major change, that we could make a difference and halt Climate Change. But it was supposed to be the last chance, the final situation where we had a possibility to ACT NOW and halt a catastrophe.
That was what the environmental groups were saying about COP26 in Glasgow. Though there were crowds and protests and drumming at a big parade, very little of any consequence was agreed upon. There were some mild measures related to rising CO2 levels but nothing that would disrupt globalisation.
The world's leaders smiled for the photos, left the conference, went home and carried on as before. And we returned to our lives under the shadows of COVID and Climate Change, knowing that we hadn't made a difference.
Maybe it was too much to expect that drumming and marching could shift the course of industrial capitalism but we were all disappointed.
