Global Warming?

Not so many people talk about Global Warming anymore. It might be mentioned in newspapers or on the TV but serious discussion tends to use the term Climate Change.

There is a good reason for this: Global Warming suggests that we will have hotter summers and milder winters in the future. It implies sunny weather and warm days, possibly spent on the beach. To some, it might sound quite pleasant.

Climate Change has a more ominous sound to its name. It gives the feeling that the future is uncertain and that the weather might be unpredictable and unreliable. A time of storms and rain and strong winds. Not really the kind of weather that would make you want to go to the beach.

A recent article in Nature has identified changes in Atlantic currents that could make Europe colder: Climate Change may not just cause unsettled weather but it could be mean that some parts of the world face the opposite of warming.

So, storms and strong wind aside, there is the potential for Canadian-like winters. Definately not the kind of weather for sitting on the beach.
