I've just finished revising one to send in. They are quite fussy about anonymity at Costa so I won't name the story here.
In fact they are quite fussy about a lot of things: arial typeface, no indents, double-spaced, story-title-plus-word-count in the header and all in pdf format. It took me nearly as long to edit the darned thing as write it.
Well, not quite but it did take a while.
Still, it's a good competition with a degree of kudos. No pain, no prize or whatever.
Have I any chance of winning? Not really. It's a prestigious award that pulls in loads of entries, but there's no harm entering. At worst it has forced me to revise my piece and I can use it elsewhere once it's rejected.
Oh dear, I've already used the R word and I've only just sent it in. Such is the world of writing...
