Northumbrian Westerns

The Northumbrian Westerns are a series of speculative-fiction books looking at Northern England in the mid to late 21st century. Books one and two are completed and available to purchase. Book three is currently being written. Details here.

The Frontier Myth and American Dream

This is the major project for 2022 and 2023. Research is already underway to explore the USA post-9/11 and financial crises to assess the mood and aspirations of much of the US population.

Using popular culture, data and political analysis, it is hoped that a clear picture can be provided of the direction the world's biggest economy is heading.

Political Economy and solutions to Energy and Climate Changes Crises

Building on recent research into the principles of degrowth and economics analysis of energy source depletion,  this latest project is related to models of practical sustainable development currently in existence.

Though there has been lots of discussion of incentivising sustainable business or how to adjust current economic systems to be more environmentally friendly, there has been little on more radical degrowth approaches to the management of a nation's economy.

For this project, there will be some research into systems beyond the usual sphere of developed countries, where measures involving fiscal adjustments and minor legislative incentives are usually considered. The analysis will consider more fundamental structural changes that might be needed, taking examples from non-capitalist economies.

This is starting in spring 2022 with an intended endpoint of mid-2025.

Stage Plays

Three stageplays have been drafted out for submission to the BBC later in the year. These are Frontroom Festival, Burger Break and Hotel Bionica.
